The inception of the Oxford-Weidenfeld and Hoffmann Scholarships and Leadership Programme took place in 2015. This initiative was made possible through the generous contributions from various donors, with the purpose of commemorating Lord Weidenfeld’s 95th birthday. Furthermore, in June 2017, André Hoffmann, who serves as a Trustee and Chairman, made an additional donation of £9m to the Trust. This donation was complemented by a matched funding of £6m from Oxford University, resulting in the doubling of the size and impact of the Oxford-Weidenfeld and Hoffmann Scholarships and Leadership Programme.

Details of the Scholarship:

The Oxford-Weidenfeld and Hoffmann Scholarship is a part of the Oxford Graduate Scholarships program. This program was created through an innovative initiative that combines matched funding from various sources to offer fully-funded scholarships to exceptional graduate students worldwide. The University of Oxford contributes 40% of the funds for these scholarships, while the remaining 60% is generously donated by supporters of the Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Trust, including Fondation Hoffmann. This collaborative effort ensures that scholarships are available for graduate students of the highest caliber from all corners of the globe, enabling them to pursue their studies at the University of Oxford.

Requirements:

To be eligible for the Oxford-Weidenfeld and Hoffmann Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Application for New Graduate Course: You must be applying to commence a new graduate course at the University Of Oxford. This scholarship is not available for students who are already enrolled at Oxford, unless they are existing Weidenfeld-Hoffmann scholars.
  • Intention to Return: It is expected that you have the intention to return to your country of ordinary residence upon completion of your studies. This scholarship aims to support individuals who will utilize their education and skills to make a positive impact in their home country or on a broader regional/international scale.
  • Alignment of Studies and Career Objectives: You should be able to demonstrate a clear connection between your chosen field of study and your long-term career goals. It is important to articulate how your academic pursuits and professional work will contribute to the enhancement of public life in your country of origin or at a wider regional/international level.

Scholarship Duration and Reward

  • The scholarship will cover 100% of course fees and a grant for living costs (of at least £18,622). Awards are made to cover the full duration of your fee liability for the agreed course.
