Scholarship Covers:

The Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarships Program (JJWBGSP) offers a comprehensive range of benefits to its recipients. These include:

  • Economy class air travel: The scholarship covers the cost of economy class air travel between the recipient’s home country and the host university at the beginning and end of the study program. Additionally, a travel allowance of US $500 is provided for each trip.
  • Tuition and medical insurance: The scholarship covers the full tuition fees for the recipient’s graduate program. It also includes the cost of basic medical insurance, which is obtained through the university.
  • Monthly subsistence allowance: While on campus during the scholarship period, recipients receive a monthly subsistence allowance. This allowance is intended to cover all living expenses, including accommodations, food, and other necessities. The specific amount of the allowance varies depending on the host country.

It is important to note that all JJWBGSP scholarships cover the duration of the recipient’s graduate program or a maximum of two years, whichever is less.

Requirement for Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarships Program:

To be eligible for the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJWBGSP), applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Required Languages: Applicants must have proficiency in English.
  • Eligible Countries: The scholarship is open to applicants from all countries around the world.
  • Dual citizenship: Applicants should not hold dual citizenship of any developed country.
  • Good health: Applicants must be in good health.
  • Educational qualification: Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, earned at least 3 years prior to the Application Deadline date.
  • Work experience: Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years of recent work experience in a development-related field after earning their Bachelor’s degree.
  • Employment: Applicants should be employed in a paid full-time position related to development work at the time of submitting the scholarship application. However, there is an exception for developing country nationals from a country on the updated list of Fragile and Conflict States provided in the Application Guidelines.
  • Admission to preferred university programs: Applicants must be unconditionally admitted (except for funding) to at least one of the JJ/WBGSP preferred university master’s programs for the upcoming academic year. The program should be located outside the applicant’s country of citizenship and country of residence.
  • World Bank Group affiliation: Applicants should not be an Executive Director, his/her alternate, and/or staff of any type of appointment of the World Bank Group. They should also not be a close relative (as defined by the program) of any of the aforementioned individuals.

The eligibility criteria will remain the same throughout the application process, although they may be subject to change between the closing of one application cycle and the opening of the next.
