International scholar Program UBC 2024

The International Scholars Program at the University of British Columbia (UBC) offers prestigious need-and-merit-based awards to international students. There are four categories of awards available:

Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award: This award recognizes outstanding prospective international undergraduate students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and exemplary leadership skills. These students are known for supporting and empowering others through collaboration, empathy, and active listening.

Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award: This award is designed for exceptional international undergraduate students who come from impoverished or war-torn areas. Despite facing challenging circumstances, these students have achieved academic excellence. The award provides significant financial assistance to enable them to attend university.

International Impact Award: This award is given to exceptional students who have shown leadership abilities and a commitment to addressing important global issues. These issues include sustainability and climate change, natural resource conservation and management, social justice, equity and inclusion, and societal health and wellness. Priority is given to first-generation learners and those from diverse backgrounds.

Vantage One Excellence Award: Offered by UBC Vantage College, this award is for academically outstanding international students who do not meet the English Language Admission Standard for direct admission to UBC. It recognizes their potential and provides support for their undergraduate studies.

Scholarship Value and Duration: The value of the UBC International Scholars Program is determined based on the financial need of the students. The needs assessment is based on the financial information provided by the student and their family.

Recipients of the award may have it renewed for up to three additional years of undergraduate study or until degree completion, whichever comes first. This renewal is contingent upon maintaining satisfactory academic standing in their faculty, demonstrating continued financial need, and maintaining a valid Canadian study permit (student visa).
